Baltimore Science Fiction Society Baltimore Science Fiction Society, Baltimore, MD, Baltimore, MD

On February 23rd, at 8PM, the Baltimore Science Fiction Society will host Scott H. Andrews (Beneath Ceaseless Skies), Damien Walter Grintalis (Electric Velocipede), Rahul Kanakia (Strange Horizons), Leslie Connors (Apex Magazine) and moderator Sarah Pinsker (published in multiple magazines) for a roundtable discussion titled, "From Slush to Sale: Behind the Scenes at Sci-Fi Magazines." "From Slush to Sale" will be a detailed discussion on every aspect of the process of creating and publishing a professional and semi-pro magazine: setting up the business, their relationship with the SFWA, advertising, going through the slush pile, work flow, rejecting and accepting, negotiating with talent, proofreading, and then publishing. Our panelists will also discuss what, if any, the big trends are in the sci-fi mags, how they contrast with the lit fic mags, whether publishing in the mags is really a good gateway to getting a novel published, and other valuable topics for readers and aspiring writers alike. The event is free and open to the public.
